Action Plan for Tobacco Control Legislation
Alberta is the only remaining province without any legislation to control tobacco sales and marketing. In addition, the Smoke-Free Places Act only provides protection to minors, not to adults. All Albertans need to be protected from secondhand smoke in public establishments and in private sector workplaces. The lack of tobacco legislation is contributing to increased rates of tobacco use among all Albertans, including our youth. Alberta has the highest rate of per-capita tobacco consumption in Canada.
